This beer speciality pub is situated right next door to the Hotel Victor brew pub in the Žižkov. It is a member of the PIV, an alliance of beer bars, mostly in Prague, but also in some other towns. Once you see their sign on the window of a pub, you are guaranteed a good selection of beers. Merenda is no exception to this, as there seven taps with an ever-changing choice.
Really it is two pubs as upstairs you will find the non-smoking Restaurant which has a full menu. However it is fine to just have a few beers. There is also a cellar bar that is also a music venue. Smoking is permitted here.
On entering you will find the bar on the right and the main room on the left. The beer menu of the day is displayed in full detail above the bar and also on the tables.
This was the selection when I visited: Primátor světlé pšeničné (5.0%), a wheat beer from Náchod in the east of Bohemia; Patriot (4.5%) from Minipivovar U Stočesů of Rokočany, near Plzeň; Skalák řezaný 11° (5.0%), an amber beer from Pivovar Rohozec of Malý Rohozec u Turnov in the north east; Permon American Pale Ale (5.0%) from Lomnica u Sokolova in far west of Bohemia; Benedict (5.1%) from Pivovar Břevnovský sv. Vojtěcha in Prague; Svijanský Máz světlé lezak 11° (4.8%) from the village of Svijany in the north east and finally, Konrad Červený král speciálňí červené pivo (5.0%), a special black beer from the Konrad brewery of Liberec-Vratislav, again in the north east of Bohemia.
So, as can be seen, a good pub to try a number of specials from small or regional breweries.
