This was a first time visit. I caught the 31 tram over the River Danube from the city centre and alighted at the Mattaus-Jisszdastrasse stop. This pub is in the Florisdorf district and I soon found the home of the Kadlez brewery. It's a huge pub, established in 2004. Well actually it is much, much more than a pub.

It has a restaurant, there's a disco and dance hall, and it also has a Poker Room on the first floor. There are also live bands.

It makes sense for a large place like this to have its own brewery. The plant is fully automated and, on the occasion of my visit, just two beers were brewed and I thought them outstanding.

First I had Pils (4.9%) and then Zwickl (4.8%). The first was much more bitter than the normal Austrian version of Pils and is filtered, so the beer is clear.

Zwickl is an old style that is always unfiltered and is often brewed with top fermenting yeast, like British beer, but I don't think this one was. I loved it. To get a beer this bitter in Austria is very unusual. One would normally expect to find it in Bavaria, Germany. This was a great visit.

Trams 26, 30 and 31 pass by and it is less than ten minutes walk from Florisdorf station which is served by U-Bahn line U6 and by S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S3, S4 and S8.
ÖBB main line trains also stop here.
