When we were confronted by the crowded frontages of the various commercial premises at this address we had difficulty locating our destination pub.

As Bashnya means “Tower” I suppose it should have been obvious as one of these businesses sported a small stone tower with a clock. Doh! I believe that the name derives from one of the many towers at the Tula Kremlin.

Once inside we discovered that this was another basement bar and had no windows. I looked around and could see that it was decorated in a pseudo-English pub style. Actually, nothing wrong with that as it looked like a very comfortable place to have a beer, or two. It is basically one large room with fitted furniture. This is of dark varnished wood with green staffed leather seating.

The brewery is visible behind glass at the rear of the bar area. There is a table football machine in front of the counter.

There are stained glass windows that are illuminated from behind in an attempt to make you think they face towards the outside world, but it is not so.

There were four beers available: Premium Lager (Light) (4.7%); Теmнoe (Dark); Красное (a red beer) and Мшеничный Зль (Wheat Ale).

I apologise for the lack of information on this pub, it is somewhat reclusive. Nevertheless, don’t write it off as we had a pleasant sojourn here and the Light and the Dark were both good.

Krasnoarmeyskiy Prospekt is the main avenue that leads to the railway station and so has a very frequent service to and from it. There are many trolleybus and bus routes along this road. Right outside the pub is the Leyteyzena/ул Лейтейзена bus stop.
