This brewpub is in a well-known Berlin district, Spandau. It was once home to Rudolph Hess, the prison that held him was demolished within weeks of his death. The changing of the guard between the four allies gave its name to a well-known late 70s band.

The pub is housed in a notable brick building, which is said to have been the laundry of a barracks. I've also heard it was a water works for which the architecture seems more appropriate.

It's a very comfortable hostelry with a biergarten. Havelbräu is the standard beer. It's a Hell (light), pleasant with not too much bitterness, but crucially, not much gas. There's a special beer always available, changing every month.

The pub stages many events, there always seems to something going on.

The main room is very comfortable and the brewery is right in the middle. In addition, there is also a first floor drinking area.

It is also a hotel and offers inclusive packages, one of which is a beer tasting weekend. Well worth the trip out of the city centre.

The pub is about 300 metres from the U-Bahn station of Altstadt Spandau and 800 metres from Spandau Hauptbahnhof which has S-Bahn and regional trains (RB and RE), also InterCity trains on several routes.
