Pub Visit - Germany

Bayrisch 1 BuildingFriday 17th August 2012

Bob Thompson

This is a quirky pub that is quite close to the cathedral in the city of Augsburg. The brewery was installed in an already established pub during 2010. This is not a wordy article as there is not a lot to say!

Inside it is decorated in rustic style. There is one main room with low lighting and, at the back there is a biergarten where all of the customers were located that evening. There weren't that many either, considering it was a Friday night. The pub offers a large food menu and Claus Kröger, owner and brewer was in attendance serving the clientele.

There are just three beers and myself and fellow drinkers Patrick and Vaughan tried them all between us. I had the Zwickel Hell (4.5%) and the Märzen and I thought they were just about OK with the Märzen having a very slight vinous back-taste. Patrick proclaimed himself satisfied with the Weizen (wheat) beer.Bayrisch 3 Drinking area 2 and barBayrisch 2 Drinking area 1

This pub is appearing in Beervisits because we need a second opinion.

Important Information:

Bayrisch Brau Pub, Frauentor Strasse 38, Augsburg 86152. Tel: 0821 2970718

Open 11.00-14.00, 17.00-23.00.
These times are daily in Summer, they are also applicable for Winter except that it is closed on Sundays.

Easily the best way to visit the pub is to catch the no 2 tram from the city centre. The Mozarthaus stop is 200 metres from the pub's front door. This is a very useful route as it passes a few brewpubs and brewery taps. It is also walkable. Ausgsburg station is extremely well served by IC (InterCity), ICE (InterCity Express) and even French TGVs en route from Paris to Munich.

Update October 2017. Hours: Wednesday to Monday: 11.30-14.00 / 17.30-23.00. Tuesday: Closed.
