Bob Thompson
After I had visited Upright Brewing I had a long wait for the no 9 bus having just missed one. This took me along NE Weidler Street the stop near NE 17th Street.
I walked one short block north where I found the Broadway Grill & Brewery at 1700 NE Broadway.
As can be imagined I had imbibed sufficient by now but as this pub was near to my hotel I thought it should be visited.
What I wasn't prepared for was the sampler tray. No less than nine beers in 4 oz glasses!
These were Multnoma Village Golden Ale (6.0%), Great White Wheat, a beer that varies in strength between 4.5% and 7.5%, presumably between summer and winter.
This was followed by Mr Toad's Wild Red (6.5%), a red ale, Pacific Porter (6.0%), Mr Slates Gravelberry, a strawberry wheat beer that also changes its abv from 4.5% to 7.5% according to season.
Next up was British Bombay IPA (6.5%) made with five different hops and four malts. Then there was Rat Dog ESB (6.0%), Hop On!, an amber ale, and finally the seasonal, Black Magic Stout (abv unknown).
I thought this was a great pub and considering the number of beers brewed, it showed no pretension, being just a neighbourhood local. I then managed the assumed ten minute walk back to the hotel although I'd wager it took longer than that!
