Pub Visit - USA/Canada

sidebar 1 tasting roomSunday 19th June 2011

Bob Thompson

Not unsurprisingly this pub is called the Sidebar as it is literally around the corner from its parent, the 5th Quadrant, and is described as a Tasting Room.

It caters for the drinker only, as distinct from the main pub which is a restaurant as well as a pub, as is normal. It also has a few beers that are not available in the main bar.

Here is the list, the last two (in capitals) were exclusive to the Sidebar. Heaven's Helles (5.3%), Sour Willy (4.5%), Kick Axe Pale Ale (5.2%), C-Note IPA (6.9%), BOURBON BARREL AGED LSD (8.5%) and CEDAR PROOF BELGIAN DUBBEL (7.6%).

sidebar 2 distinctive outsideI had a small glass of the Whiskey aged beer which was brilliant and another of Kick Axe which I hadn't had in the main bar, superb. There are also Lompoc beers to drink in or take away.

It's comfortable and relaxing, so it is surprising that the outside is so distinctive, see photo.

After this pleasant interlude I walked south to North Vancouver Avenue for the no 4 bus direct to Union Station.
