After arriving in Arvada on the bus Linda and I walked to the first brew-pub on our itinerary. We went along Grandview Avenue and I noticed this bar and especially the two hand pumps on its bar counter. We vowed we would call in after our tour around the Olde Town of Arvada, and we duly did so.

The frontage has a middle door with windows on either side and opens out to a large room. The main part of the pub is at a slightly lower level accessed by a slope.

There is seating and some shelves on the left at street level. On the right there are more conventional long wooden tables with loose chairs. The bar counter is located on the left of the room.

Moving further down into the main room we could see it was furnished with “German biergarten” type tables and benches appropriate for a beer hall.

At the end of the room is the staff service counter for the kitchen on the right side facing up the room is the live music stage below a very large screen TV. Bands play every Saturday and Sunday evenings.

The beer hall is the inspiration of Lenka Juchelkova and Mike Huggins and its opening night was Thursday 21st January 2016. It is named after Adrian Kline, proprietor of the Arvada Tavern, who obtained the first liquor licence in the town after prohibition finished in 1933. Nevertheless he was still unable to sell beer of more than 3.3% abv! The building was once used as a Ford car dealership, later a pizza restaurant that had live music.

As befitting an American beer hall there is a a very wide selection of ten regular beers and twelve guest beers.There were a couple of well-known internationals in the form of Pilsner Urquell (4.4%) from Plzenž, Czech Republic and Paulaner Hefe-Weizen (5.5%) from Munich, Germany. The other year round beers were 8 Second Kölsch (5.0%) from Elevation Brewing of Poncha Springs (CO) and Helles Lager (5.5%) from Bierstadt of Denver (CO) and Golden Monkey (9.5%) from Victory Brewing of Downingtown (PA), a Belgian Tripel.

The list of regulars continues with Saison (6.8%) from Funkwerks of Fort Collins (CO); Maduro Brown Ale (5.5%), (a northern English brown ale) from Cigar City Brewing of Tampa (FL); Mirror Pond Pale Ale (5.0%) from Deschutes Brewing of Bend (OR); Elevated IPA (7.2%) from La Cumbre Brewery of Albuquerque (NM) and West Coast IPA (7.0%) from Green Flash Brewing of San Diego (CA).

Then there were the guest beer list known as “Featured Friends”: The Canary from Alpine Dog Brewing of Denver (CO); Picking Dandelions from Crystal Springs Brewing of Denver; Maibock from the Green Mountain Beer Co of Denver (CO); Cooks Lane from Hogshead Brewing of Denver; Sawatch American IPA from Jagged Mountain of Denver (CO) and Wheel Gose Round (a Gose flavoured with raspberry and lemon peel) from Left Hand Brewing of Longmont (CO).

The guests continue with East Coast Transplant IPA from New Image Brewing of Arvada (CO); Ash Valley (a Mango Witbier) from Platt Park Brewing of Denver; I’m Peach (a double IPA) from Stone of Escondido (CA); Whacked out Wheat from Telluride Brewing of Telluride (CO); Pura Vida (a New England IPA) from Wibby Brewing of Longmont (CO) and Blind Watchmaker Red from the Infinite Monkey Theorum Brewery of Denver (CO).

There was only one cask beer on the hand pumps that had seduced us in here in the first place. It was Hogshead Cooks Lane. I had a pint and it was fine yet not as good the example we had at the brewery.

An interesting point with the guest beers is that the twelve breweries are always the same; it is just their individual beers that change.

This is a really good pub with a great beer selection. It shouldn’t be missed if you are in or around Arvada.

In the future you will be able to ride the G line of the RTD suburban network.
It will take less than 20 minutes. Trains will start from Denver Union Station.
At this time (March 2019) it had not started, until then it’s bus only.

Bus routes serve the Arvada Park-N-Ride by the station. From there go to the railroad tracks on Vance Street. Cross over these tracks and turn left past the future RTD rail station. The pub is almost opposite it.
