Pub Visit - England

Bob Thompson

Early in 2011, I visited Just Beer in Newark, Notts. It's located in a former industrial building down a cul-de-sac off a main road. Walking towards it you'd never know it was ever there, yet it was full up!

True to the ethos, it sells only beer and cider, between four and seven at a time, and that's a lot for a very small pub. However, it is a lot bigger than the Butcher's Arms at Herne, where its inspiration came from. It actually possesses separate Ladies and Gentlemen's toilets!

Whilst I was there the range was: Springhead Bitter (4.0%), Brewster's Winter Draws Out (4.0%), White Park Cranfield Bitter (4.4%), Isle of Purbeck Studland Bay Wrecked (4.5%), and Hook Norton Double Stout (4.8%). There was also Broadoak Moonshine Cider (7.5%).

There's Cribbage, Darts and a Quiz on various evenings. So, if you're around the Newark area, give it a try.
