Pub Visit - England

Dodo117th January 2025

Ian Rogers

The Dodo micropub is found in a former shop unit and is easily identified by it’s bright blue exterior. It was opened in 2017 by the founder Lucy Do – hence the name of the pub. Although Lucy had not yet returned from her holiday, the staff were very welcoming.

Dodo2On entering through the central door, there is a small table to the right and a settee to the left. Next on the right is the counter area, where staff can maintain the till, sales of snacks and take outs as well as glasses and washing up.

Dodo3Dodo4The rest of the venue comprises wooden benches attached to each wall with tables in front and movable stools can be placed on the corridor side. Halfway down the wall on the left is a chalk board showing the current draught offerings, plus each bench has a clipboard showing the full menu.

Dodo5The beers constantly change and at the time of visiting those available were (cask) - Castle Rock Wonderful World (4.1%) @ £5.60, Black Lodge Brewing Shake Hand Make Friend (4.5%) @ £5.60, Anarchy Brew co Cheat Code (5.1%) @ £5.80, all of which were sampled and in good condition. Two kegs were also on – Lost & Grounded Helles (4.4%) @ £6.60 and Gravity Well Termination Shock (5.3%) @ £7.80.

There is also a range of bottled/canned beers and ciders available, together with a choice of wines. As part of the spirits offered, there are own labelled Gin and Rum.

Dodo6Orders are taken at the table and the cellar is in a room at the rear left, where casks are racked for gravity dispense. Payment is card only on a tab basis.

The pub has no distractions like TV or music and is very much a local asset and prides itself on encouraging conversation.

Several CAMRA awards are displayed above the counter area.
