Pub Visit - Germany

Tuesday 30th November 2010

Bob Thompson

This excellent brewpub is located under an arch of the railway that carries the East-West main and S-Bahn lines through the city, known as the Stadtbahn. Despite its outside appearance this pub is deceptively large.

Lemke Hackescher 1 BuildingLemke Hackescher 2 Brewery and drinking roomStandard beers are Pils, Original (dark) and Hefeweizen (wheat). Additionally, there is always a seasonal beer. When I visited it was Christmas beer, Weinachtsbock, very nice indeed. I've also seen Zwickl and Märzen. This pub produces some of the best beers in Berlin.

Important Information:

Brauhaus Lemke Mitte, S-Bahnbogen 143, Dirkenstrasse, Berlin 10178. Tel: 030 2472 8727

Open: Daily 12.00-23.00 (or later)

From the platforms of Hackischen Markt S-Bahn station, come down the stairs (obvious), turn left in front of the 24 hour pub (yes!) immediately go right and cross the road to Dircksenstrasse, look out for the trams! Another 100 metres and you're in the pub. Also, it is only 300m from Alexanderplatz. The station is served by trams M1, M4, M5 and M6.
